Service Lift Modification

We were engaged by Dyno to deliver a complex service lift modification at AFFCO’s Whanganui site. The project needed to accommodate new blast freezers that blocked the original lift access. The challenge was compounded by the age of the lift, the tight winter shutdown window, and the need to design a new door opening solution.

Our involvement began with on-site scoping, where we worked directly with AFFCO’s major projects team to develop a simpler, more effective approach. From there, MES managed planning, procurement, and certified welding, while coordinating with crane operators, scaffolders, riggers, and engineers. Risks included working at height and hot works, mitigated through scaffolding, hot work permits, fire watches, and compliance with AFFCO’s permit-to-work system.

Despite commissioning challenges, the lift was returned to production on time, on budget, and with improved performance. The client praised the solution-focused approach and noted the lift had never run so smoothly. This project highlighted MES’s ability to integrate technical problem-solving with on-the-ground leadership in a demanding environment.

Project Highlights
